Nationwide Rain Likely as Monsoon Strengthens Across Country

Kathmandu: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast widespread rainfall across Nepal due to the active monsoon system. According to the department, monsoon winds are currently influencing the country, with the monsoon trough positioned near the average location in the west and slightly north of average in the east.

Afternoon Weather Forecast
The weather is expected to be generally cloudy throughout Nepal this afternoon. There is a high chance of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in:

-Most areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces

-Some areas in other provinces

Heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Koshi Province, and isolated heavy downpours may also occur in Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini.

In the high hilly and mountainous areas, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall. Additionally, strong winds may occur in the Terai region of Koshi and parts of Madhesh Province.

Nighttime Forecast
Tonight, skies are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as scattered areas elsewhere.

The 6:00 AM weather bulletin highlights the possibility of:

-Heavy rainfall in one or two places in Koshi, Madhesh, and Sudurpaschim

-Rainfall and snowfall in high-altitude regions

-Wind activity in parts of Madhesh Province

Flood and Landslide Warnings
The department has warned of potential flash floods, river overflows, and landslides, especially in urban and lowland Terai areas.

Precautionary advice includes:

-Staying alert near rivers and streams

-Being cautious while traveling on roads in hilly and mountainous areas

-Taking measures to protect agriculture, health, tourism, and air travel

The public and concerned authorities are urged to remain vigilant, adopt necessary safety measures, and prepare for disruptions in daily life due to rising water levels in major and minor rivers.
